About Me

aboutme1Hmmm. About Me? I’m not sure where to begin. Let’s see where this goes…

My name is Melissa. I must confess that I love Family History. I love looking at photographs from years ago. I love hearing stories of my family members. I believe the lives of previous generations have affected the lives of those living now. I also believe we will impact generations to come. I want to learn all I can from the previous generations. This is just one reason why I enjoy doing my family history so much!

I have been working on my family history for years. There are times, as with any other history buff, that you just need to put it down, walk away, and come back to it later. You never lose the previous knowledge, you just build on it.

Along my journey I have found various resources, tips, and tricks that I would like to share with you. It doesn’t matter what “family” you are researching. The majority of my advice will help you.

I have been asked many questions regarding my work. Where did you find that? How did you find that? Where do I start ? (My simplest answer: male family member with an “odd” name)

At times I have had family members “amazed” at my findings and at other times, we have all scratched our heads! There are days when things fall into place and others when I just take that “puzzle” piece, set it aside, and hope another one fits it.

The best piece of advice I can give is this:

  • EXPECT the UNexpected! It happens more often than not.
  • Find an older family member and talk to them! They are an immense help! Sometimes it will take them a little longer to remember, but usually a memory will trigger another memory and they just grow.
  • Not EVERY family member will want to share. Just keep searching, you will find one who does.
  • The internet is your friend! There are so many websites and resources available to use – most of them are free!

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experiences (good and bad) with you!
